Young Stellar in Debut

Merrimack: The Warriors had themselves another strong weekend as they took the series against Sacred Heart. Game 1 featured a strong relief outing from righty Timmy Kalantzakos. Kalantzakos came out of the pen for 2 innings and allowed no runs, on 1 hit, and struck out 5 batters. The Warriors would end up winning the series opener 4-3. Merrimack would take game 2 as well, before falling in game 3. The game 3 loss was no fault of pitcher Jake Thibault, who tossed 5 relief innings, allowing just 1 run and striking out 4. The Warriors are now 7-11 on the season.

Palm Beach Atlantic: Shortstop Sean Houck had himself a strong offensive performance this past week as the Sailfish won their mid week matchup vs Florida Tech before being swept on the weekend by Barry. Houck hit .307 on the week and blasted a 2-run home run against Florida Tech. He also tacked on a double and came across to score twice. PBA currently sits at 3-10 on the season.

Assumption: After a long wait, the Greyhounds were finally able to get their 2021 season underway. After taking 2 from Saint Anselm, Assumption was swept on the weekend by top 25 team Franklin Pierce. Lefty Shea Ryan got his first action of this season, taking on Franklin Pierce’s high power offense. Ryan went 3.1 innings out of the bullpen, striking out 2 batters while also allowing 2 earned runs. The Greyhounds kicked off their opening week with a 2-4 record.

Saint Joseph’s (ME): George Welch took the ball against Colby for his 3rd start of the season. Welch would toss 4 innings and allow 5 runs, while striking out 8 batters. Welch’s record would drop to 1-2 on the season. Welch’s K/9 is currently a staggering 16.20

Salve Regina: Salve Regina wasted no time at all racking up the wins on their 2021 campaign, as they are now 5-0 on the young season. During the impressive 5-game conference sweep of Curry College, pitcher Graham Jeffries got his first mound time of the year. Jeffries went 1.2 innings without allowing a run or a hit, and struck out 2 Curry batters in the outing.

Wheaton (MA): Coming into the 2021 season ranked the #19 team in Division III baseball, the Lyons quickly showed why as they jumped to 4-0 on the season. Wheaton would sweep Clark this past weekend, with 3-year Silver Knight Griffin Young doing the heavy lifting on the backend of the double header. Young got the ball for his first start of the season, and went 6 strong innings allowing just 1 run on 3 hits, and struck out 8 Cougar hitters. Young walks away with his team still undefeated, and sports a 1-0 record with a 1.50 era.
