Keegan Dominates Derby

(Lynn, MA): The Silver Knights needed another win at North Shore to keep pace with the Bravehearts, who won their game earlier in the evening. It was Vanderbilt Junior Dominic Keegan who delivered his second HR Derby victory for Nashua. The league’s RBI-leader (26) put the team on his back as they carry on towards a potential playoff berth.

North Shore, who outhit Nashua 9-6 Thursday, got on the board with 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. With runners on second and third with one out, Sal Frelick (Boston College) hit a 2-RBI double. Logan Bravo would hit a triple with two outs to score Frelick. Nashua would get one back in the fourth inning, Jack Arend (Nichols) would pull a single to right field with 2 outs and score on a Ben Rounds (Harvard) single.

In the 7th, Jared Dupere would walk and then score on a 4-3 putout grounded into by John Mead (Franklin Pierce). That would be all the scoring until the Derby decided the winners. Keegan defeated the duo of Futures League. Luke Beckstein (Kansas State) has been playing well as of late, having another 2-hit game on Thursday. Nashua also left 10 men on base. Nick Shumski (Merrimack) has been having a great season on the base paths, his SB total rose to 11, only two off the league lead of 13.

Nashua starter Josh Roberge (Wheaton) lasted 4 innings, giving up 3ER on 6H, 1BB and 1K. Jake Thibault (Merrimack) made his Nashua debut, going 2.1 innings, giving up 2H, 1BB and 1K. Cam Seguin (UML) pitched well for 4 innings, giving up 1ER on 3H, 4BB, and 6K. No wins and losses are awarded for games that end via HR Derby.

Nashua pushes their record to 16-11, still 2 games behind Worcester for the number-one seed. They are now 3.5 games ahead of Brockton for second place as the Rox were swept by Westfield on Thursday in a double-header. The Knights will host the Rox on Friday at 6PM before continuing a 4-game homestand Saturday at 6PM against the New Britain Bees.
