Rox Slip by Knights

(Nashua, NH): Coming off an opening day loss, the Silver Knights were poised to pick up their first win of the season, but a lack of offense prevented them from attaining that goal as they fell 2-1 against the Brockton Rox.

Nashua opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when Vanderbilt’s Dominic Keegan sent a double to the left-center gap. He would later score on a single by Ben Rounds (Harvard). That would turn out to be all the offense they could generate on the night.

Brockton answered in the fifth inning when Jack Gelof (Virgina) singled and would later score after a series of hit batters. The game remained tied until the top of the eighth, JP Knight (Bryant) would reach via walk and advance to second on a wild pitch before scoring on a go-ahead single by Gelof.

Justin Garcia (Roger Williams) picked up the win in relief, going three innings, while not allowing a hit on two walks and five strikeouts. Nate Tellier (UMass-Dartmouth) came on for the save, striking out two of the three batters he faced. Jack Kramer (Sacred Heart) took the loss for the Knights.

The silver lining for Nashua was the overall strong showing from their pitching staff, giving up only two runs on five hits. Six pitchers made their season-debuts, with standouts including starting pitcher Joe Quintal (Fordham) and Brandon Dufault (Northeastern), who recorded six and five strikeouts respectively. The Knights staff currently sports a 3.00 ERA.

The Knights will turn the page to Sunday, when they will square off with the two-time defending champion Worcester Bravehearts in a 3PM matinee at Holman Stadium. Worcester is coming off a 6-0 loss in their season-opener against the New Britain Bees.
