Nashua, NH – The Nashua Silver Knights split their doubleheader with the Torrington Titans tonight. With Torrington’s win they clinch the 3rd place in the FCBL Playoffs. The Nashua Silver Knights now will face the Brockton Rox in the first round of the FCBL Playoffs. Game 1 will be played in Brockton on Friday August 10, 2012 at 7pm. In the first game of the doubleheader the Silver Knights won 6-0 behind RHP J.P. Ashline (Bentley University) complete game shutout (7 innings) allowing 5 hits, 1 walk and striking out 5. He is now 2-0 on the season with a 2.08 ERA. The Silver Knights offense was lead by James Katsiroubas (UMass Lowell) who went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Lamarre Rey (Bentley University) who doubled in two runs.
RHP Michael Joseph (Middlebury College) started for the Torrington Titans. He pitched 1 inning allowing 2 runs (all earned) on 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 1. He received the loss and is now 0-1 with 3.28 ERA.
Between the games Chris Hall (Brandeis University) gave out four regular season awards. Chris Shaw (Boston College) won the Top Prospect award. Connor Lyons (Northeastern University) won the Defensive Player of the Year award. BJ Neverett (Nashua, NH) won the Manager of the Year award. Torrington’s Tyler Dierke (Kenyon College) won the Top Pitcher award.
In the knight cap the Torrington Titans won 8-3. LHP Jordan Scheiner (Colby Sawyer College) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, 5 walks and he struck out 1. He is now 2-2 on the season with a 3.48 ERA. Torrington’s offense was lead by Connor Bierfeldt (Western Connecticut) who was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two doubles. He know leads the league with 15 doubles on the season. Kevin Lum (Cameron College) added a two run double and Rich Graef (UMass Amherst) went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
LHP Tom Baroni (Bates College) started for Nashua and went 3 innings allowing 2 runs (all earned) on 4 hits, 2 walks and he struck out 2. He received the loss and is now 3-1 on the season with a 2.70 ERA. Jon Minucci (Southern New Hampshire University) hit his 12th home run of the season, which puts him 1 behind the FCBL single season record.
